^ With obesity becoming the norm, you’re not a very responsible lot, eh? With your immaturity comes increased insurance payments, increased health costs, premature deaths…
Actually, are you trying to say that liberals are the morbidly obese in the USA and that the ever increasing numbers of the morbidly obese means an ever increasing number of liberals?
And you don’t want to stop this trend?
Ah, I get it now, these liberals then die prematurely leaving more room for the conservatives. taps nose knowing Long term plans but absolutely devious! Genius even!

You got it partly right, but came to the wrong conclusion, premature deaths cut spending because we don’t have to pay for them any more.

Just put your EBT card in the ATM and buy whatever you want in New York. You can even make it rain. Mr King probably still thinks people are waiting in line to get their cheese and paper certificates for food stamps.

The better idea would be to make people show proof of insurance before they’re allowed to buy food with no nutritional value. That way at least they’re the ones “taking responsibility” for their stupid behavior.

PS: Another cartoonist only depicts fat people as white. The obesity epidemic is most pronounced uptown. Deal with it.

    “Libs hate personal responsibility.”

I would submit that lack of personal responsibility abounds, regardless of location or political affiliation. I don’t see that this proves that anyone hates it. It just proves that people are unwilling to apply it.

My local congressman yearly sponsors a bill to create a constitutional amendment to balance the budget. Think about that: he believes that the only way that Congress can pass a balanced budget is to force it by way of constitutional amendment. 2/3 of Congress, and 3/5 of the states have to approve a measure to tell him and his buddies that they have to do their job. Talk about lack of personal responsibility.

And he would be quite surprised to hear that you think he’s a “lib”.

    So much for sweeping generalizations.

“while still allowing Cigarettes and tobacco products to be sold in the city.”

I suspect you will find a much greater direct tax revenue from cigarettes. Can’t be absolutely sure without seeing the sales tax regs.

The way the current EBT system works, you can’t put tobacco, alcohol, and in some cases even soda on you’re actual EBT card.
However, you CAN use the card to get a certain percentage of your benefits back as cash, and that is how people get around the loophole. So now, thanks to their addictions, their families have even LESS money to feed their families than before.
Why was this system approved? To increase revenue from alcohol and tobacco sales. (The official excuse is to allow the poor access to bus fare, gas money, or prescriptions, but the states do see quite a boost from their increased “sin tax” item sales)

So, you support legalizing all drugs then, right? It’s the same argument.

That has to be the weird thought of the day. Makes zero sense.
Liberalism is based on personal freedom. Read John Stuart Mill, read Jefferson.
This ban is quite contrary to Liberal thought. It is more a Bush-GOP-control type thing. (Not Libertarian or Liberal, nor IMO constitutional.)

According to every link I checked including Snopes you can’t buy prohibited items with an EBT card in Florida, Period.

The hysterical nature of the US abounds. Jesus. As laws go, this one was dumb, but fairly harmless. Just buy two damned sodas. But no, that’s too much, and thousands of dollars in legal fees MUST be thrown at the problem.

On the other hand, legal issues that genuinely DO infringe on freedoms, like waterboarding or habeus corpus or what have you, and much impotent hand wringing commences-

ha ha, just kidding, it’s mostly forgotten about now. God, I’m terrified of this country.
