The deniers have shifted gear somewhat in the past few years. Many of them seem to have gone from “ain’t no such thing, all a hoax” to “well, yeah, it’s warming, but we had nothing to do with it, and it’s just natural, and we can’t do anything about it.”
A few go further in their implicit admission of the facts and say “well, unless China and India do something, there’s no point in our doing anything,” which of course ignores the fact that China is doing WAY more than we are, and we are still responsible for a disproportionate amount of CO2, let alone the fact that any reduction in CO2 gives us more time to act.
I am optimistic that someday the deniers will no longer be about, either because they have accepted the mountain of data that makes it clear, or they will have drowned due to denying that the seas they stand by are rising. King Canute lives — for now.
