Donald Trump on DACA: “Chuck and Nancy want to see something happen – and do do I” Conservatives are furious after Trump cuts debt ceiling deal with Pelosi and Schumer. Trump hoped for elites’ approval with Democrat debt deal – and they’re giving it, for now. Trump’s deal with Democrats is a warning to Republicans – establishment and conservative alike. Trump wants “permanent” DACA deal “Where everybody is happy” Winning: Pelosi, Schumer are “normalizing” Donald Trump. “You have nothing to worry about” – Pelosi prompts Trump tweet to DACA illegals.
The front page of Steve Bannon’s Breitbart News, is boiling over with frothing, all-caps headlines: “Amnesty Don”; “Trump Caves on DACA”; “. . . POTUS Sez ‘Wall’ Is Actually Just Renovation of Old Fences.” Meanwhile Trump and the Dems are moving closer to deal on DACA that will protect hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigratns from deportation.
The two democratic leaders announced they had “agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides.”
If a deal on some immigration and border issues happens, it would be the second major agreement between Trump, Schumer and Pelosi this month following their pact last week to raise the debt ceiling and extend government funding into December that left the GOP and some of Trump’s closest allies flabbergasted. Making a deal that finds a way to keep the individuals who benefit under DACA in the United States shows the challenge of striking bipartisan deals in Washington, and no agreement will move forward in Congress unless Ryan and McConnell agree on it. The primary reason for the silence from GOP leadership offices is they are trying to figure out what actually happened during the dinner.
