The 1953 version of the film is the only one I will recognize as existing. The shot of Los Angeles City Hall getting blown up always gets cheered, when they have it in a theater.

Dean’s world and reality — two ‘very’ separate and distinct places…

The same scene was used in Earth vs the Flying saucers and V, the tv series.(original)
I actually liked the new version … but there’s supposed to be two cheapo versions floating around that I haven’t seen … and apparently suck severely.

I always cheer the scene where the minister gets fried.

Yes they are on SyFy. I couldn’t watch them all the way through. Actually the Spielberg one was the one that stuck closest to the original 1899 story. So for that I am grateful. Though not the aliens themselves or their total liquid diets.

In “EvFS” the dome of the Congress is smashed in and the first of the damaged or destroyed monument occurs. The most recent is in “Olympus Has Fallen” where the top gets sheered off.

I prefer the book. Mind you, I do live extremely close to Horsell Common…

I also love the musical version, ‘Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds’ … it’s a rock album … supposedly, there was a movie version, but I could never find any reference to it.

If they did the same thing in 2013 as was shown in 1953 it wouldn’t be much different. though there are new weapons and technologies that could give us back an edge including infra sound devices.
