Great story line, Mark. I need to throw Tolkien back on my reading list since it’s been a few years… although I have recently listened to Rush’s “Rivendell” and “The Necromancer”, which were both inspired by Tolkien’s writing.

It is indeed gratifying to see children reading a book with the TV turned off! I’d like to see more of it.

I loved reading as a kid, but couldn’t bring myself to read the Hobbit until I was an adult
I blamed my 6th grade teacher, even though it really wasn’t her fault
She read the book aloud to the class, which should have been cool
Problem came from the fact that she was in her last year of teaching and her voice creaked and cracked so bad that I couldn’t concentrate on the story
I can still hear the way she pronounced Hob-bit, she sounded like Gollum
