If there’s one thing everybody has in common, it’s getting older. From newborn babies to baby boomers, there’s no escaping it. “Gray Matters” is skewed to that vast generation of boomers. But since getting older means adapting to changing circumstances, lots of readers, old and young alike, can relate to and laugh along with our characters. Don’t let the name of the strip throw you. The cast of “Gray Matters” is anything but colorless as they struggle to keep up with the rapid changes in society, culture, technology, the workplace, their families and, of course, their bodies.

True! He needs a belt!
Preferably right upside the head!
But, if only the nincompoops who wear their pants like that knew the story behind it, they would hike them up so fast they might get denim burns…

Thanks for the presentation I especially liked the live creation of the strip. It has cross genearational appeal I’m mud sliding towards 30, my dads are 52 and 55 and often recognise themselves and even our staid butler who must be 70something but was born in his late 50s and has stayed there can often be caught sneaking a look over my shoulder or pretending to wipe down my Tab. I look foward to meeting the new characters

Seriously, What is the real story? Inquiring minds want to know.
I always figured it was just to piss people off.

Every time I go to a mall, I feel like Klaatu…

Started in prisons. If you were willing to sell yourself as a “Girlfriend” to a bigger guy for “Protection” or whatever, you wore your pants down like that. It was a subtle way of letting the other inmates know without overtly alerting the guards. The lower you wore them, with more underwear showing, the more willing you were to trade favors for sex.
The sideways or backwards baseball cap has kind of the same origin, by the way. The direction the bill is turned showed what you were willing to do with the “Product” after it had been delivered.

Thanks. I guess if had ever had gone to prison I would have had my waistband over my head. Or gotten a tatoo that read: Exit Only!

I do have to wonder how many of the upper middle class white “Gangsta Wanna-bes” wandering around ANY mall would immediately hike their pants up to their armpits if they knew the story??

Unfortunately, most of them are so self deluded they think they are such bad azzes that it could never happen to them. Little do they know how bad bad really is.

Certainly one of the dumbest trends of young people. If they need to run they will trip and fall.
