If there’s one thing everybody has in common, it’s getting older. From newborn babies to baby boomers, there’s no escaping it. “Gray Matters” is skewed to that vast generation of boomers. But since getting older means adapting to changing circumstances, lots of readers, old and young alike, can relate to and laugh along with our characters. Don’t let the name of the strip throw you. The cast of “Gray Matters” is anything but colorless as they struggle to keep up with the rapid changes in society, culture, technology, the workplace, their families and, of course, their bodies.

I wonder how many people will read this today, and ask; “What’s a Phone Booth”?

I think the ‘phone booth’ phrase was the ‘no longer cool’ part.

Is that car so small that the seat belts don’t reach over their shoulder?

Ah, phone booths:
When I was an auto appraiser, before we were issued cellphones, we had to use cellphones to call in to the office. Finding one that worked was a challenge, and then it was just slightly better than stepping into a public porta-potty: drunks used them as urinals, homeless souls slept and sometimes died in them.

The lobby outside the “Windows on the World” restaurant atop the north tower of the World Trade Center had great glass phone booths.

octagon: And the south tower (18th floor) had a mosque. I wonder what the furor over that replacement a couple blocks away was? Bigotry?

Most people don’t need phone booths which was just for privacy originally. Saved Tippy Hendren from the Birds.

And without Phone Booths, where would Superman have changed from Clark Kent?
Loved the gag in the original Christopher Reeve Superman movie where he is looking for a place to change to save Lois as she is hanging from the crashed helicopter.
He runs up to the phone …and it’s one of those little shells that just surrounds your shoulders enough to cut down on the noise level.
A GREAT skewering of a Superman Tradition!
