The year we forgot our tent stakes, I split them for ours (mine and my little brother’s) with a hatchet – Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

But … I was a Girl Guide! lol!

Good thinking! That probably wouldn’t work these days. They all seem to be made of plastic now.

What has plastic to do with it lots of fallen wood around even in a desert climate .
Take hatchet cut to size pound into the ground problem averted .

Ever pitch a tent without a hammer? It gets a little rocky.

I spent on jolly evening watching two couples trying to setup a borrowed tent that was missing a critical part. I whittled a replacement, then went over and showed them how to set the tent up.

In most of the U.S. public campgrounds now, they would arrest the kids for cutting a piece of wood. Our ever-vigilant nanny state in action.

I dunno— I always appreciate it when there are trees left for next year’s camping.

On University campuses they have science camps during the summer. That would even be better, too.
