I know it’s raining cats and dogs, I just stepped in a poodle.

“It’s raining frogs and fish”, just isn’t as catchy; even though both have happened.

This is why history is important. In olden days, people kept animals such as cats & dogs in the upper part of their thatch roof. When it would rain really hard the animals would fall down into the main part of the house. Hence, when it would rain hard and the animals fell into their area, it was raining cats & dogs.

That’s silly. The real reason is that before our present-day sewer systems, if a town flooded, you would see drowned dogs and cats floating down the streets.

^ I wondered where that saying came from. And people don’t say it as much now.
