Having seen street people pick butts off the ground and out of ashtrays, smoking her own fresh ones around “horse doots” will be easy for Mrs. Olsen.

@Aliksikakos- Not really. When you stop smoking your sense of smell comes back. Even your taste buds revive. The sensation can be a bit overwhelming. Horse doots will be one powerful smell for that old nose.

Actually, one’s smell comes back highly sensitized. I quit over 30 years ago and I can still smell someone smoking in the next car at a stop light – with the windows closed.

Your senses of smell and taste don’t come back highly sensitized after you have stopped smoking. They are just gone back to normal. While you were smoking they were almost dead.
About your car-story: I am sorry, but this is imagination. I had the same experience in my younger days. One evening I had too much Wodka. It was so much, that I was sick the next two days. Afterwards, not only during the next few month, no, even during the next two or three years, I immediately smelt the Wodka when at the other end of the bar somebody opened a bottle.
Pure Wodka … hum, I mean pure imagination.
This shows, that your body still isn’t through with the stuff, even when you had stopped smoking thirty years ago.

Reminds me of Harry Morgan as Marshal Walter Thibido in John Wayne’s last movie, “The Shootist.”
When Thibido first encountered John Bernard Books (Wayne), he concluded that meeting with the words, “The day they lay you away, what I’ll do on your grave won’t pass for flowers!”

We had two janitors at our school: Dial Fussel and Ken Mudge. I always wondered if they’d made those names up.

Smelling some one else smoking in a car is certainly not imagination. I have never smoked, but when I am driving, I will catch a whiff of that nasty odor, and if I look around, sure enough, there is someone smoking in the car ahead of me, or off to the side. Most smokers probably don’t realize how much real estate they stink up. Walking in the park, for example, they leave a trail of stink hundreds of feet behind them.

Awww. Frazz cares a LOT for Ms. Olson!
I wonder what life lessons SHE taught HIM when he was in her class.
