Hey, last day, nice day, not a lot to carry; why NOT enjoy a stroll and check out the neighbor’s gardens.

That way she knows what kind of competition she’s up against!

(long-time readers know that Mrs.Olsen takes her Gardening VERY Seriously.)

Thank you Mr. Mallet for portraying one of my favorite characters in a good light!!

Somehow I doubt Mrs Olsen’s heroism is going to impress Caldwell much after this. (And I wonder if all that coffee she drinks is Folgers…its Mountain Grown you know…)

And Mrs. Olsen would have made a truck driver blush!
One of my favorite stories about working at a naval air station which used to be north of Philadelphia related to a Marine who would come bowling with four of his Navy buddies almost every day for our lunch special.
We had a 6-lane bowling alley on the base, and the Marine was a very good southpaw bowler, and I liked to watch their games.
One day, the Marine missed a sure strike, and dropped the “f-bomb.” Without missing a beat, I said, “Hey, Marine – watch your language. Sailors might hear you!”
    They all cracked up laughing!

Mrs. Olsen must have had an adrenaline rush.

Aaaaaaaand we’re right back to making fun of Mrs. Olsen. It was bound to happen, and to be honest, my thoughts (on the news of the walking) were identical to Caulfield’s. It’s a funny gag, but as I’ve always had trouble with the self-congratulatory tone of characters like Frazz and Plainwell, I’d rather have seen the reaction come from someone else. You know, someone not so smug about her own superior discipline and physical fitness. Someone who might get over the shock of cognitive dissonance and say something nice like, “Walking? That’s great!”

Frazz has got a Musselman Triathlon tee shirt from the 2008 race. It looks like Miss Plainwell was in a college sorority, judging by the Greek symbol on her shirt.

I don’t see fun being made, just honest surprise!

I had to look that up. I thought you were joking. Interesting!
