You may not get it because this pun is regional. In some parts of the US, The first syllable of Chocolate is pronounced like Chalk.

Try Starbucks.com and see what chemists (baristas) are up to these days……… coffee is no longer a teaspoon of instant and cup of hot water…………..

You probably don’t want to try Ernie’s recipes for Straw-Berry pie, Goose-Berry pie, Devil’s Food cake, Rhu-Barb pie, Mars-Ipan, Van-Illa ice cream, etc.

The different English accents in the US can be confusing. Compare New England, the deep south and Hawaii. I worked on Kauai for a time. It took me the longest time to understand the local lingo, away from the tourist sites.

dzw3030: When we mved to Canada, I was determined to learn the local accent. Unfortunately, in Vancouver, that was at least twenty different ones.

I know that; and I still didn’t get this. Now, if the gag had been “chalk lit,” that would have been comprehensible.
