   He needs to play some speed chess where the name of the game isn’t just winning in moves but taking less time for those moves. It aids in developing a quicker decision making capability.

   Back in the 60’s I used to play chess by mail, using postcards. I wonder what the mailman thought when a postcard would only have one thing on it, like “QxKn”

    A book “Starfollowers of Coramonde” had a scene where a leader and one of her generals were playing chess, with the pieces each having a small candle of randomly-chosen length. When a candle went out, the piece was removed.
