If competence is shown, effort will be expected.

What? What secret? The cat’s out of the what, now?

It’s not the knob so much as where the soap goes.

I know a family here that has to get a friend to set the clock
on their VCR because its always flashing 12:00 AM all the time and their too dumb to figure out how to do it themselves.

All depends upon what the degrees are in. I’ve known far too many PhDs who had no wisdom/common sense whatsoever. (My four are MSEE, BSG, BSCET, ASGE.)

What’s funny about this strip is that in the 80s and 90s, it wasn’t uncommon for women going to college to know nothing about what used to be called home economics. It was a source of amusement for us guys, who generally had done our own laundry for years and usually had worked a restaurant as our first job, having to teach the girls how to do laundry or to cook.

When I was in junior high school, every kid had to take basic cooking and basic sewing. I doubt they did that many places, given when I went to college. I fear I don’t retain anything from the latter but how to sew on a button or to put on a patch..

One of my housemates is a nurse, and the other is a PA. Neither has the sense God gave a billy goat.

Ability and motivation are different things. He’s not there because he wants to play with the knobs on the dishwasher.

My school did the same thing and added wood shop and metal shop to the mix. I’ve always been grateful… oh, and we all had to take typing, too. It was a public school, before anyone asks.

When I was in school it was required for all girls to take a shop class. The only thing I remember from that is nearly cutting off my finger and fainting. That was when I decided not to become a nurse.

Then in high school, I changed schools between my junior and senior year. The new school required a cooking class to graduate. I was the only senior in a class full of freshmen.

We apparently are roughly of the same vintage. In my (public) high school, all the girls took home ec. And all the boys had to take shop/mechanical drawing. If I didn’t know that I wasn’t mechanically inclined before that, I certainly did after.

More likely they just dont want to invest the time it take to learn how to.

He can, but he plays dumb because he doesn’t want anything to do with doing the dishes.

My husband’s son and daughter-in-law have degrees in Marine Biology and Zoology but when their cat had kittens they were unable to tell which were female and which were male. However their six-year old daughter had no trouble at all and I was able to confirm it. I have no university degrees, just common sense and life experience!
