No, he worked in a mine in Northern Canada for 30 years, then took over the family farm until John’s sister Bev and her husband bought it from him. (See Fbofw.com “Classic Content” for the whole story.)

Come to think of it, I really wouldn’t want to know my dentist had just unplugged a toilet before putting his hands in my mouth. The idea just isn’t appealing.

JanCin, some of us didn’t start reading this strip until 5 or 6 years ago on GoComics. We know these are all reruns because we know Lynn stopped creating new strips after Elizabeth got married. Kindly shut up! Nobody likes a killjoy.

Well son, you have 2 choices: a plumber or a plunger. It’s time you learned.

Yeah really, John, grow up and handle it yourself. Why is it that we turn into children every time we see our parents?

Algurka, third option is a plumbers snake. They can be much more effective than a plunger…

Some in our generation learned to be good at everything. I tried to carry it on with my 3 sons and daughter- teaching them all to cook a meal or two, rewire a lamp or light switch, sew a hem etc. I deplored meeting men who would brag that they could not even use a screwdriver or pliers - but there were some of my younger co-workers…

If they are plugged you either reach in and pull it out or if its too deep call in the plumber’s snake to drill it out.

John might as well be up front about it. My inlaws always come to visit and spend the entire visit looking for things they think need to be moved, fixed, trashed (and they keep glaring at me).

I figure if they don’t like it, let them take the time and expense to make it to our liking.

“Plumber or plunger” just sounded more poetic, but you’re right. There’s always the snake, pots of water, reaching in and pulling out the toy (yuck), etc.
