Family Tree by Signe Wilkinson for February 13, 2016

"How was Diversity Day, Mr. Tree?" "Pretty good." "We had food from around the world." "That's daring!" "What are your family's favorite ethnic foods, Miss Tully?" "Cheetos, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and Cherry Coke." "Wow! We really are the same."
I think more focus needs to be on what we have in common, and less emphasis on our differences. Not that people can’t enjoy their cultural traditions, but I think society would be more peaceful, if we’re not forced into different groups. I think the melting pot worked better. I enjoy learning about different cultures, but I don’t have to know about yours, in order to respect your rights as a human being.
