    BD would be justified in throwing a pass at a certain part of Zonker’s anatomy (think of Burt Reynolds’s pass in “The Longest Yard”).

    These were the best years for the strip.

    To this day if someone does or says something I don’t like, I tell them, “You know what that leads to? COMMUNISM!”

    And all because I read these original Doonesbury strips decades ago.

    These early strips are bringing back some memories. Like every adult I knew calling me a commie some reason I still can’t fathom.

    The strip was a cheeky breath of fresh air when it started, and over the years, Trudeau came to care for his characters and the strip ripened into something deeper. I like it whichever way — I was the right age to come for the quick laffs and stay for the developments.

    Maybe this will explain it, maybe not; remember kindergarten when children call each other names like poopy-head or droolie-breath? Some folks never outgrow that childhood name calling thing, you see them a lot in blogs calling each other morons and idiots. Today instead of communist they’d call you liberal as if that encapsulates everything you are and says it all, as if it means anything more than a persons hatreds and fears and inability to articulate ideas in an intelligent way. That’s how I see it anyway, what do you think? (and if you disagree with me then you’re just a droolie-breath, and a communist).

    I’d say a call to the coach to get this Zonker out would be good. Better than punching Zonker in the honker would.

    I don’t know much about football, but a button hook seems counterproductive to catching a long bomb. Is it just me, or maybe BD is getting a contact high from Z?

    (and if you disagree with me then you’re just a droolie-breath, and a communist).
    I’ve been shot at by Communists, rubbed elbows with them and even danced with a few, Some sorts even CALLED me a Communist, which started a very bloody fist-fight, but to what gain? The littlest grand-niece still calls me ‘poopy-head’….(sigh) She’s still in the will, though..

    @Al S.

    You need some room for facial expressions even if you wouldn’t use it in reality.
    Consider space suits that light up the faces for the viewers but would never be used in reality.
