I always applaud another kick in the head to an ignorant superstition.

I remember seeing the first ever Doonesbury cartoon and marveling at how far Trudeau has come. As an aspiring cartoonist, I hope I can one day become as great…

Now, let’s just hope there’s enough security at Walden to keep JJ and Uncle Stupidhead from crashing the wedding.

Alex is right. That’s as good as she’ll ever look. She’s Mike’s kid, all right!

Good luck! Let’s see some of your work. You won’t find a more willing group of, ehem, critics.

Alex came, made the save, and is right back out of there – perfect timing. And they are a wonderful couple, even for cartoon characters.

I thought the last chance was when the man says “Speak now or forever hold your peace.” - Or maybe even when he asks “Do you … ?”

“Marriage is an institution that requires commitment … like an insane asylum.”

Apropos of nothing at all, I was reminded of a famous wedding that occurred here in Virginia in the 17th century. In 1687, the Rev. James Blair, who would soon become the founder of the College of William and Mary, was married to Sarah Harrison. During the ceremony, a well-attended event considering the prominence of the parties involved, there was a bit of a glitch. The the officiating minister, a Mr. Smith, instructed Ms. Harrison to repeat the vow to love, honor, and obey her new husband, she said “Love, Honor, but no Obey.” Mr. Smith stopped the ceremony and repeated his instruction two more times, but each time the young lady insisted “No Obey.” At last, rather than give it up all together, Mr. Smith finished the ceremony and married them. Nice to know there were young women with spirit even 325 years ago.
