"Garry Trudeau is the premier American social and political satirist of his time." -Newsweek Doonesbury has managed to be articulate, abrasive, political, compassionate, misunderstood, misprinted, and outrageous - but one thing it's never been is complacent. Garry Trudeau's creation has chronicled American history and culture in a parallel universe. And through it all, Doonesbury has always been honest, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

She might say she’s committed, but she should be.

Alex is a dreamer. And in this case, she’s the only one.

If Leo stays involved with Alex, his other problems are going to seem much more manageable. That girl is a monster.

Woah! Alex has a streak of her mom, true, but she’s generally okay. Hyper-insecure and desperate to jump ahead of herself, but the way Trudeau has portrayed her over the years makes it clear that she’s no monster. Needs a little growing up, that’s all.

where are they driving to? From the graveyard? The last I recall was the memorial service which looked like it was at Mike’s house, since they showed the heirloom table, plus the fact that zeke and his associate were trying to break in.

Yo Pouncingtiger, was that a John Lennon allusion?

This is hilarious. She wants to date the guy, and readers thinks she’s “their” Alex, oh so cute and perfect. She wants to think about long term goals, all of a sudden she needs to be committed and she’s a monster. Leo needs to show up and fix a few misconceptions. I don’t think all of them are going to belong to Alex. She’s a little off base for not talking about this with him first, but that’s hardly a hanging offense.

Alex is realizing she wants to live in Paris. She’s trying to bring her love with her into this dream….so many women (and men) have to leave comfort-zones, work lives, etc. to make the sacrifices/compromises that commitment to love entails….. she’s going to see through herself soon….and even with his challenges, Leo provides her a possibility of anchor (to her kite), common sense (to her flights of fantasy - good trait for a creative person) and union - unlike the divorce of mismatched parents that she is still torn about - her only role models.

Alex, don’t move to Paris. It’s a city INFESTED with Muslims!
And I don’t give a rat’s behind if I’m not PC!

Good comment, freeholder. Alex only feels secure when she thinks she possesses Leo and can manage (or “toggle”) him. Maybe in order to grow up, or to learn the difference between love and possession, she’s got to lose him.

Like most women, Alex will probably get her way and then blame Leo for screwing up her life.

Alex is in love with Toggle, but she’s also in love with being in love. Gotta find out which one she loves more.
