Joanie: Quayle has a DEA file? Do you know what's in it? Rick: All I know is that he was the subject of a grand jury probe in one cocaine case, and was mentioned in connection with two others. All when he was a U.S. senator. Joanie: But isn't that just hearsay? I mean, he wasn't indicted. Rick: Correct. Which is why I'm concentrating on the effort to cover up the file's existence. Joanie: Well, I don't get it. Why would Bush take such a chance in nominating him? Rick: He probably didn't know. The file didn't actually surface until late in the '88 campaign. Joanie: Wow...three whole years of damage control. Rick: I know. They must be exhausted.
