Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

Good job, Dougie! (But I hope Sophie doesn’t get the blame!)

Blame the Kitties, Sophie!
Around here it is always the cats, the only trouble the St Bernard ever causes is knocking things over with her enormous tail

I’ve been working on my comic strip archive and finally worked my way up to the Dog Eat Doug strips I have filed by title last night
The oldest strip in the file was from July 20, 2004 back when DED was still on Comics Sherpa, think it may have been the first DED strip
There are a couple of dozen strips from that era that I had printed out and filed back then
The art sure has changed over the years, I almost didn’t recognize Doug and Sophie from the way I’m used to seeing them now

My best friend was babysitting her little 3 yr-old and a little neighbor boy. She had to run down to the basement to switch the clothes from the washer to the dryer and while she was down there, she heard laughing and giggling and footsteps running back and forth in the hallway. When she got back up there she found out the kids had taken handfuls of dirt from her big potted plant in the LR, run down the hall to the master BR and thrown the dirt across the bed to the wall. Naturally, Diana was the ringleader getting them both in trouble!

Brian, it looks like you have your own version of Robert the Plant.

My sister had a dog and a cat – she blamed the dog for knocking over the trash several times. When she moved from Indiana to California she decided both were too old for the trip and family adopted them. I took the cat and my parents took the the dog. The amazing thing is that MY trash was knocked over several times and my parents trash NEVER was. My sister was so ashamed. :-)

Love it, love it. So true. And thank goodness NO cats in this strip. Are you done with the cats now, I hope?

I agree with Doctor Toon – blame Hobo and Cheese. ’cept for the tell-tale dirt all over Doug. Actually Doug is pretty clean for pulling off this mess.

Hope that’s not a dieffenbachia plant. Doug could be in for an unpleasant time if he decides to taste it.

Most members of Congress are like that, although it may not be intentional in their minds. :)
