Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

Of all the cats we have had, only one would ride in a car with no fuss. He would sit on that area behind the back seat.

My grey tabby (Echo) was also known as Toonces the driving cat (SNL) as he’d sit on my lap as “we” drove. He was the size of a Maine Coon cat and loved sitting in the driver’s seat.
Hey Brian – I don’t remember Sophie ever being boxed up while travelling … what gives?

I had a cat that LOVED riding in the car… until she had to go to the vet for a painful treatment. She never forgot it and hated the car after that.

Try giving your (future) cat treats and praise her after the trip. My dog loves his trips now, and even jumps into the driver seat.

I think the colorist messed up. That’s Sophie’s tail with kitty coloring.

Yeah, I think that’s the only way the strip makes sense/punchline is funny.

Unless that cat is inside the carrier with Sophie, giving her a bit of “cosmetic surgery”…

@JK1
She never was crated when traveling. Is that what you meant?

@my_discworld
It was indeed supposed to be Sophie’s tail.

My bad, Brian. I did indeed mean never crated… remember that lovely lab’s wide open mouth catching bugs and stuff out the window.
Whiskers???? I know, Sophie doesn’t have them, but they’d tickle Doug fer shure.

looked like Sophie’s tail. just the colourist got carried away.
.
My friend has her dogs seatbelted in the back seat. They have been doing it since they were puppies, so put up with the constraints.
.
just as the cat carrier needs to be locked down with the seatbelt.

I always seat belted my cat’s carrier. Right in the middle of the back seat so that he could look between the two front seats.
