Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

Interesting he didn’t mention seeing their father. Guess he was a Tom visiting from the next farm, and they never figured out who he was! (Actually, given their different tails, they probably have different fathers, even though they are litter mates.)

how come these kittehs don’t have whiskers? Poor sophie, she needs another puppy to play with or discover how soft and warm two cats can be.

Hey yldchyld – I mentioned the lack of whiskers on Hobo and Cheese last week. They would tickle both Doug and Sophie …lots of new scenarios in that. Maybe they just haven’t grown in??? Hint, hint …
I do love how Hobo and Cheese are intertwined in the first panel. Maybe that’s a start on how they can interact with Doug and Sophie in one warm, comforting snuggle nap.

Actually, the demon cat is their mom. Still going strong.

Wait a sec. I had been drawing whiskers. I’m not sure what happened. I think I just stopped doing it by the time I got them in the strip. Might have to slip those back on.

Oh please do, Brian. ‘though I don’t recall whiskers…will have to scroll back. But think of Doug’s chubby bare belly and the kittens’ whiskers…some fun there, donchya think?

I do like their pose in panel 1. But their Georgia farm background makes their manner of “speech” even more mysterious.

Nope … Hobo and Cheese didn’t have whiskers when they appeared on Jan. 1. Revisiting those strips was fun; love the little kitten swipe and the “shiney thing” distractions.
Whiskers, please, please, please Brian.

Aha! Just as I suspected! Al Qaeda cats from Tbilisi! Deport the little terrorists.
