My mom was weak on the whole left/right thing, so she and my dad developed their own system for when she was navigating in the car. To go left, she told dad to turn “your way”; right was to turn “my way.” A pretty good workaround.

I can do left and right – it’s the whole N/S/E/W thing. in my mind, north is always in front of me, west on my left, east on my right, and south behind me. It’s such a strong feeling, that I even have trouble believing compasses. Go fig….

N,S,E,W are all great when giving general directions (e.g., it’s south of the mall, or east of downtown.) But if I’m in the car and driving, left or right register a heck of a lot faster. Of course, my granny used to have trouble with which was her left hand (as a result of being forced to write with her right hand even tho she was naturally a lefty). So we’d say something like, “go right. The OTHER right.”

Do you have a hard time finding where you’re going?
As for myself, I ALWAYS have to Mapquest directions. It’s even so bad, once I was in my own neighborhood I’d lived at for YEARS, turned down a street I’d not turned down before, and got lost! lol

I too am directionally challenged. N,S,E,W, elude me without the car’s compass. I long ago dubbed myself the Queen of turning around. I can hook a U Turn like you wouldn’t believe.

I was raised in Texas and have lived in Minnesota for quite some time. My partner tells me to go south one more time, and I am likely to get on I35 going south and keep on a going until I35 takes me into Dallas!!!
