Richard Thompson's Cul de Sac, is a comic strip about the life of a pre-school girl named Alice Otterloop. It is a light-hearted comic strip centered around a four-year old girl and her suburban life experiences on a cul-de-sac with her friends Beni and Dill, older brother Petey and her classmates at Blisshaven Academy pre-school. Alice describes her father's car as a "Honda-Tonka Cuisinart" and talks to the class guinea pig, Mr. Danders. She has the typical older brother who plays jokes on her, and she contemplates ways to keep the scary clown from jumping out of the jack-in-the-box with friends.

Okay, I liked the newer strips (I’d never seen these older ones) but now I see why it was SO well recieved right from the get go. These are much better even if the art is messier.
And I have to say, I applaud Mr. Thompson for stopping the strip even if it was “good enough” if part of the deteroation in the humor was due to his health issues preventing him from being as engaged.

There are several current strips I like a lot, and of course Doonesbury just keeps chugging along, but I’m SO glad that we can get re-runs of CdS, C&H, and FBorFW. If only we could get Far Side, too, it would be just about nirvana.

Her target in panel #2 is quite telling.

Poor Petey! Alice and he usually seem to get along quite well!
I don’t think I’d enjoy being in a room or school or neighborhood or cul de sac full of Alice-heads, all flying around and talking!

I’d be more worried that they would keep on biting!

One Alice head is more than enough.

I’m with you – and Dill on that one.

In that case, Alice wouldn’t have to worry about “losing her head”.

Made me think of the pawn-shop guy (Tony Shaloub) in the Men in Black movies.
