True, the pun messes up the rhyme. And while I do remember Simple Simon, I’ve heard about him so rarely that I suspect many readers won’t get the jok.

Maybe Duane wants to be a dad, deep inside, so he has to test his dad jokes on someone who he knows will roll his/her eyes at him. :D
