Grandpa is unduly surprised, I think in the comics most grade school teachers are good looking young women. He may be surprised because in this strip almost no one outside the family is attractive looking. Grandpa should also be thinking such thoughts to himself.
I grew up in public school. Sadly, most(90%) were getting on in years. High school, biology and civics were my favorite classes for the reason expressed in the strip.
The worst teacher that i ever had was my 10th grade Literature teacher. She was fresh out of college, 22 years old, tall, beautiful and loved to wear miniskirts. She would perch on a stool at the front of the room to read poetry to us. I don’t think one boy in the class learned a damed thing, but we were so eager to go to class!
