I think we’d had this discussion on one of these comics not too long ago. But I haven’t seen one of those in 40 years. Though some folks said they still go through their neighborhoods.
We have 3 or 4 that come around every day, year round. Instead of music, one makes a noise like a submarine in distress, another rings a school bell. Both are very annoying. Then there is the one that plays a typical ice cream truck tune but is interspersed with a strange childlike voice saying “Hello”. And they keep running until about 8:30 at night. They all look like converted camper vans. They still attract kids like a Pied Piper.
i can remember a children’s book where the girls had to do a dance dressed like rats or mice and one of the girl’s masks kept slipping. does this ring a bell for anyone (not an ice cream truck one).? Unfortunately, it wasn’t the whole plot and googling it doesn’t work, especially for a book from about 45 years ago.
I drove an ice cream truck one summer between college semesters. Not totally unenjoyable. Decent money for a college kid. A lot of kids would buy chunks of dry ice from me to mess around with.
When I was a chid man in icecream van playing music goes around still after 40 years also goes to small towns and still going strong . I asked one time how the tolrate the tune all the time they wear ear protectors or try to ignor.
There are still ice cream trucks in my neighborhood, too. I think there are two different ones, or maybe the same one just plays two different tunes. I’m never out there when it goes by to get anything, though.

Do kids their age have money in their pockets to buy icecream without their parents’ permission?

I recently saw an ice cream truck going through my office park – no businessmen running out to meet it though.
