I take it this is a Protestant church. Still, I find this one in bad taste. I enjoy most of John’s material, but this one he’s going to want to have back. Where were the syndicate screeners on this one? I’m REALLY surprised this got by. Sadly, the people who are not Christian or WERE Christian or are Christians PLAYING Christians are too often the people who seem to be the “experts” on what Christianity thinks. This is the erroneous source of most of the ill-gotten ideas about Christianity.I also notice that no one has a problem with Christ, only Christians. This is the fault of not only the placebo Christians (which even the “good” Christians can be at times, after all, all humans have faults), but of those who count themselves of a higher moral grade by denigrating Christians. Christianity is founded in Faith, Hope, and Love, but the greatest of these is love. Fortunately, God will do the ultimate judging as that is above our pay grades. God is management. We only work in the field.Peace to all!

@RunarI guess it depends on what your definition of the word absurd is. In my book, the absurd doesn’t include casting aspersions.I also realize that people can justify anything they want. One only has to pick up the newspaper or examine one’s conscience. I’m sure the Pope has a sense of humor, even a sense of the absurd (how could he not), but what you tried to pass off as absurd is anything but. Put anyone else’s name in place of the Pope in your sentence and it still doesn’t sound “absurd”. It is what it is – denigrating.That brings me back to the origin of this run of comments…the cartoon in question.I don’t think poorly of John. I just think he blew it with this cartoon. Maybe, on second thought, John might agree. I don’t know.
For the record, Mr. McPherson, I love this strip. Do not pay any attention to the Xtians who are offended; they suffer from a sense of humour deficit and they want everyone else to suffer from it, too.

I guess some of the greatest cartoonists of all time had no sense of humor according to your statement, Charles Schultz, and Johnny Hart had no sense of humor. I myself am a cartoonist and Christian. If I didn’t have a sense of humor, I would not see the humor, absurdity, and irony in your statement. @Seiko….good point.
Still, again, my point is that this particular cartoon was in bad taste. The vast work of McPerson is good. I’m guilty of going to far myself at times, but it’s okay to have someone point it out without me being offended as if someone were saying I’m ALL bad. That’s not what’s being said. No one should be judged by ONE act, one cartoon, etc. Leave the judging to god, but there’s no shame in pointing out a misstep.
