We can’t be far from the day a group of strangers start shooting at each other each thinking they are getting the villain and saving the day. A deadly mistake.

“Typical—libs cry gun control every time a lunatic goes on rampage. Unless, of course, it is a terrorist like the one in the Ft Hood massacre—then it is ‘not so fast!’”That would be because most lunatics who go on a shooting rampage bought their gun legally. We don’t care if responsible citizens buy a hand gun or shot gun. We want to stop nutters from buying guns and killing.

In the aftermath of fort hood, CONservatives were calling on a purge of all muslims from the military. Does that mean the right wants christians banned from movie theaters? Because the terrorist who shot up the movie theater was a christian. Christian terrorist…

Anyone who says that this guy could have been stopped if there had been someone in the audience with a gun — well, you’ve watched too many movies. Try to get your mind out of fantasy world and try to think about what the situation was like in reality.

Not to mention that the guy was dressed in black, firing indiscriminately with automatic weapons into a crowd. The “bad guy” didn’t care who got hit; the “good guy” presumably would have to.

One more person in the audience with a gun, however well-trained, may have resulted in fewer casualties or may have resulted in more casualties, but one FEWER person in the audience with a gun would have resulted in ZERO casualties.

“So you are of the opinion that every theatre, every subway, every church, every business, every government building should have armed guards within?

LOVELY country you’re designing there."-Hmmm, your description reminds me of port visits to several countries: Soldiers/security officers armed with automatic weapons everywhere. Before pulling into those ports, we got a briefing, telling us where we could and could not go, and the general security situation. Those societies were never promoted as safe, and the weapons present didn’t make me feel like I was more protected than when I was in countries where there weren’t guns everywhere.

Not sure why anyone is even bothering to discuss this. We go through this over and over.Another shooting. Another round of candle-light vigils and community healing. Another round of “there’s got to be some limits”. Same counter-arguments. Then a display of NRA power and entire thing is shut down till next time. Wait. Repeat.

I give up. But what WERE the chances of this happening in Colorado? And why would Florida have been any different, in light of the circumstances?

What are the chances of a like massacre to happen in Massachusetts? What are the chances of a like massacre to happen in Illinois? What are the chances of a like massacre to happen in Ontario? What are the chances of a like massacre to happen in the English midlands?

THere are many types of guns no one needs, but we should have the right to have other guns.

And NO, OBAMA is NOT trying to take your guns away!! Has he said ONE THING to make you think that?

It is because of HIM that the residents of D.C. CAN HAVE GUNS!,THey couldn’t, but the one you so love to HATE, GAVE them THAT RIGHT! So stop telling lies. Alex Jones and the others that tell this LIE are hallucinating.

ARMED police arrived just 90 SECONDS after called in Colorado. They did their jobs correctly, and saved lives. The simple fact is, this kind of firepower is “appropriate” in combat, but NOT in “cvil society”. Gas grenades, TWO Glocks, a shotgun, and an AR-15 with extended magazine capacities, are NOT needed for either hunting, OR “self defense”, period.

Is it your idea of liberty to ban midnight premieres of movies and to ban patrons from wearing costumes? Wow, you must really think the government should have a lot of power to tell us what we can and can’t do. Personally, I’m a (left of) liberal, and I don’t want to government to have that kind of power.

What killed and injured the most people was the semiautomatic. Such a weapon has NO PURPOSE for civilian use! If used hunting, it would leave little meat on the bones of the prey. Reinstate the ban on these weapons, but leave hunting rifles and certain handguns on the market.

“The theater was a gun free zone. So was Virgina Tech, Colombine, that mall in Toronto, Canada – every locaion where these lone wolf shooters have struck.”-Fort Hood was a location where a lone wolf shooter struck, and hardly a gun-free zone.

The price of ammunition needs to be raised to $10 per round. Gun collectors will have no problem with that.

Professor, with respect, I request that you please fully re-read my first post on this cartoon. Perhaps I was not clear? I tried to present the situation to Archimedes in a way that would show how nearly impossible the task would have been. I think only the most skilled, trained experts could have succeeded, and the vast majority of gun owners would have only increased the carnage.

Is there a causative relationship between them? Can you site a study that shows that the cause of the decrease in murder and violent crimes is the result of increased gun ownership? I would be interested to see one.

“Please explain why one year ago, 77 people were gunned down and killed in Norway when Norway bans gun ownership?”Norway doesn’t ban guns. You could have easily looked that up, if you cared whatsoever about facts.

I would challenge Theo to hold a one inch pattern at 15 feet with his 9 mm, in a dark theater, while being shot at! In fact, I’d challenge him to keep a one FOOT pattern, under those conditions. I used to shoot PPC regularly, and did very well, with a 2" barrel Chief. I did VERY well, with a four inch Model 19 Smith and Wesson. I can still hold a three inch pattern at 20 feet with a two inch barrel, double action Ruger. I wouldn’t feel comfortable discharging a weapon given the conditions prevailing in that theater, against a man with a shotgun, and two semi-auto Glocks, AND BODY ARMOR!

Had this guy thrown a “flash bang”, even with police trained to expect them in the room, it would have been even worse chaos.

“Cars kill more people than guns. When are they going to outlaw cars?”-Probably when there is a car designed and manufactured to kill. Cars kill more for various reasons, but that isn’t because their intended use is to kill. While guns can be for target practice, the creation of the weapon is to kill, not to pump lead into a hay bale. This limited-use design makes them a much easier target than objects designed for transportation that happen to kill.

It’s clear that we need the amazing Theo to be there whenever there’s a threat — perhaps we could rig up a spot light with his symbol on it that we could shine up in the sky whenever there’s trouble, and he could rush to the rescue. He could just place a 9mm round exactly where it’s needed and the problem would be solved. Gosh, Theo, can I get your autograph!

Hello, If there’s one thing I agree with is that matches don’t cause arson, knives and guns don’t kill people, Unless People uses them for a such scope. As I former soldier I should know that my gun fired when I Wanted it to.

In the past a ticking bomb would have killed with dagers, rocks etc,.

So let’s focus on another ticking bomb like the dictator Bashir of Siria, or the whosever is the one in North Koreea for they have bigger and meaner guns.

And finally for all of you nuts out there, stop using firearms for crime, use your bare hands if you’re so “brave”. Leave my 2nd amendment alone.

Passions are indeed running high around this issue, and that makes mistakes more likely. Heaven knows I’ve made my share. I like your stand on many of the issues discussed. Please keep up the good work.

My father was in the 12th Armored, also in Europe. I remember him when I was little having nightmares, shouting warnings to his troop mates, or angry things at the Nazis, and my mother waking him and bringing him back to the present day. A lot, not all, of guys who have been in combat don’t let little things bother them much. “If it doesn’t kill you, it isn’t worth getting angry about. Figure out how to do it better next time.” I hope current veterans can succeed as well as that generation did.
