THe Mormon church is fantasticly rich, about like the Vatican. WE need to get together and tell the Justices to repeal Citizens United. Both sides get way too much money. THey buy elections, politicians and legislation even.

The Mormon church is fabulously wealthy and many of its members are fabulously wealthy. Not surprising Malibu Mittens is out-raising Obama. Don’t think for a moment there aren’t lots of the faithful believing in the White Horse Prophesy that one of their own will become president and turn America into a theocracy dominated by the LDS church.

@ Jeff Kiser“……And you have to wonder how many echoed GYPSY8’s bigotry when JFK was running as the first Catholic nominee.”.Why so loose with the bigotry accusations? I don’t hate the Mormons in the least. In fact after touring Temple Square in Salt Lake City, I came away highly impressed with their accomplishments. America could do worse than adopt their family values and work ethic. But, it is also truth that many in the church believe in the “White Horse Prophesy” where America will become a theocracy dominated by the LSD. I’m not making it up and you could do worse. Although, It might be a little tough on those of us who need our morning caffeine and enjoy a glass of wine with dinner.

You are confusing clinical observation and description with bigotry. I am only relating what a significant number in the LDS church, but I presume not all, believe regarding “the white horse prophesy.” Bigotry would be derogatorily calling a religious garment “magic underwear.” Similarly, calling Obama un-american, or Muslim, or communist, or “ears” is disrespectful and probably racist and bigoted. .After touring the Mormon headquarters, I have great admiration for their achievements. The driving force is interesting, but I am not judging right or wrong. Religious fervency has played a large part in their history. For example, their spiritual leader, Joseph Smith, going into the woods to converse with John the Baptist and other apostles from whom he received messages and commandments from God may be unbelievable to the non-believers, it gave them the motivation to accomplish great things. One example being build The Temple, which is a magnificent structure, all the more so when you consider it was build of quarried granite and largely with hand labor. It works for them and so you get no argument from me.

The age old problem. When is information and truth information and truth and when is it an excuse for bigotry. The Protocols of Zion were a hoax, the White Horse Philosophy is a belief many in the church hold. It is not official Mormon teachings, Romney says he doesn’t hold the belief, and I certainly don’t, but many in the church do and they are prepared to back it up with financial support. . In this multi-media age, the nuances of communication can certainly be abused. Look at the latest controversy where Obama said successful businesses don’t do it on their own, they depend on government for roads and infrastructure and thus the building of America is a partnership of people and institutions working together. From there Romney says Obama says that successful businesses aren’t responsible for their own success. (paraphrased) Successful democracies depend upon a reasonable level of integrity, something which is too frequently missing.

I think church is right on this one — I appeal to all my liberal and left friends, lay off on the Morman issue — he’s got a perfect right to whatever religion he likes — or to none, I might add. Attack his positions — there’s lots of fair targets, we don’t need to call names.
