There aren’t any bad dogs. There are MANY bad owners.

Whenever I got scratched or bitten by one of my cats, the first question was “What do YOU do to the cat?” Very few animals attack unprovoked.

The breeds with the worst reputations – pit bulls, rottweilers, doberman pinschers – are among the sweetest, most eager to please dogs you’ll find. It’s the idiots who mistreat the dogs and/or see them solely as a weapon that is the problem. Successfully ban pit bulls, and there will be an explosion of problems with rottweilers. Ban them, and then the problem will be with German shepherds, dobermans, etc., etc. We need much stronger penalties for animal abuse and dog fighting, not breed bans.

Bird dogs just naturally point, retrievers retrieve and some pit bulls are just gonna kill something or someone if the opportunity presents itself. It’s what they were bred to do (especially those that are from lines that have been selectively bred to fight). In addition, some dogs of any breed have a natural dominance issue and can be very dangerous. Its a shame they are allowed to live while so many nice dogs are put to sleep at shelters EVERY DAY. With respect to idiot owners, well, there’s not much you can do about that. The bottom line is that the public needs to be protected from dangerous animals.

Obedience classes are mainly for the owners. Teach us how to treat our dogs.Yes some behaviors are breed specific. But dogs are in a class all their own when it comes to rapid adaptability.

English Bull Terriers are fine example of dogs once bred for aggressive/fighting traits now a changed breed. The headstrong PITA (Pain In The A..) terrier trait is still there though.

Adults need obediance school too. When kids break the law, they go to reform schools So adult crimminals go to prison. And yes, for a dog to attack a human, they have to be teased or mistreated. I know two women on my FB wall who have pit bulls and claim they are very gentle.

I didn’t realize so many nonhumans read this strip. (And it’s European football fans that seem to be the problem in a lot of things.)
