Mom: So how is your knee? Alice: It's great! See the pandas on the bandage? Mom: Well, I'm glad skinning your knee didn't spoil your day. Alice: No, 'cause now I have a nice long story about how I skinned my knee! Here, I'll tell it- Mom: You've told me several times. Alice: But now I've expanded it and intensified the drama of the part where I fall down. It gives greater depth to my suffering.

Alice, there is such a thing as too much re-writing! But I’m glad your day is ending well.

Some might say that rather than greater depth, it over-exaggerates your suffering.

Alice could be the star of a new reality show—she is so dramatic. But wait! It will start in the new fall season.

Our eldest daughter – Sarah Heartburn! She’d limp if she got a mosquito bite. (Took after her mother.)

Alice, expand and rewrite all you want. Just don’t add Jar Jar Binks to the tale!

At least Mom knew enough not to comment on the ostriches.

If Alice says they’re Pandas, they are Pandas. Don’t bother me with reality!

Dani Rice, I cannot believe you call her Sarah Heartburn. Sixty-six years ago, my mom nick-named me that – for Sarah Bernhardt, for those of you who didn’t get to grow up in better years.
