Reminds me of the scene in a recent “Mad Men” when Peggy meets her BF at a fancy restaurant, expecting to hear a proposal of marriage. He makes a heart-felt declaration of his love but ends with a suggestion they shack up. Torn between what is and what she hoped, Peggy accepts, but when he asks if she still wants to eat dinner, she says “I do”, fraught with multiple meanings. (When was the last time I said “fraught”? When was the last time ANYBODY said “fraught”?)

Awww. That’s sweet they miss each other but is that a reason to re-start the relationship.

uh you can’t finish up a BA at a Community College. wonder what the big push by her for him to get his degree? BA’s are a dime a dozen. weird for a couple who have been sleeping together for years to be so tentative with each other. “But you want me to come back?” is he expecting her to say “No Gene, I am hooking up with Justin Timberlake now,” Mary Lou seems to be saying well if you don’t meet anyone else i will be your backup plan if you want. a chat like that would make me wonder how solid the relationship is. talk about insecurity!

First big argument, of course they’re scared if they still have a relationship. MaryLou is right and she’s not being a bully about it..The degree will help him as he gets older and when finding another job is difficult. How many employers want to high someone who doesn’t finish college, enough to say no to make the difference..Those who are ‘bored with this story,’ stop reading it, or at least stop whining about it.

Community college courses would not typically be the courses a person would take in their last semester for a Bachelor’s Degree in anything. The community college courses could be appropriate and would transfer in as general education courses or introductory courses, but Gene should have those all completed by now if he has only part of a semester left.

and…they haven’t been sleeping together for years…they’ve KNOWN each other since they were tweens…they’re entering the stage of a relationship where hormones still drive but rational thought is starting to decide direction….

To run a modern farm you’d better take a few business classes, too…..but definitely finish up. It never looks good when you don’t follow through, or finish what you start. anyway, he’s already spent a lot of time and money, might as well get his reward. Legitimacy…Meg’s still the well grounded one her…….

Has it occurred to anybody that complaining when someone says “This is boring”, is also boring? And my comment is a senseless meta-comment, that is also boring…

Ho-hum. It’s manufactured tension. Wow. Gene sure is shaping up as a lazy unmotivated schlub with little to no ambition. ML should re-think her offer. She’ll end up raising TWO kids. But we best appreciate the drama while we can. Next week we’re back to Janis’ walking and talking cartoons, followed by lazy cat cartoons, culminating to a 4th of July rant poem by Arlo. Hmm, I wonder what those daffy old folks are up to over on Ballard street?

I don’t care what the naysayers say, I love this storyline. I’ve been rooting for these two since ML was re-introduced in 2008.

Too soon, too young. I really hope he looks around campus and sees what he could be doing at his young age, and what he’s missing. In the past, he quietly freaked out in his facial expressions a couple of times, regarding settling down, Meg, etc. – so I think/hope those were a hint of things to come.
