Ain’t it amazing how all the “deregulation” folks ignore the fact that the economy, along with many environmental areas, and our “defense” went into the toilet, badly, when “deregulation” took place? Yep, those “cost plus” contracts in defense bought us the same thing corporate tax breaks and deregulation did, debt , wars for profit, and dead.
How will the conservatives justify taxing hedge fund earners at a much lower rate than people who actually build things with their hands? Oh, that’s right. Conservatives never have to justify anything.
Bruce: the “regulation thingy” IS an “interesting thingy” indeed. Like the bible, and the Army Regulations, almost any one that says you can, or can’t, is matched to another, somewhere, that says the opposite. The entire CFR is MUCH more complex than either the bible, OR the Army Regs.
Add into the mix, that many regulations may only cite a minor word change, like ONE WORD, in a paragraph from another earlier, sometimes LONG AGO earlier, regulation, and it is nearly impossible for someone who’s JOB is to track down what these changes might do, to find the effect. Thousands of not just regulations, but PAGES of regulations, have long been a nightmare.
One of the greatest failed efforts, has been to force laws and regulations to be written in “plain English” so that someone, ANYONE, can actually make sense of them.
This IS a major problem, and basically, I defy anyone without specific education on how to read these things, even LAW DEGREES, to figure out what many, if not most, actually end up saying! And that might be camping or off-road vehicle regulations! “Banking” regulations are specifically written to prevent any coherence, and therein lies the “rub”.
Bruce: being familiar with the regulations, in numerous agencies, I WOULD support eliminating about 60% of them, and re-write even those of value, to make them clearer, IN PLAIN ENGLISH what they are doing. Also, while “righties” keep demanding regulations up for review disclose their cost to “corporate interests”, I think they must also look at those “regulations” that actually DE-regulate industries, and their COST to the public interest, including health, tax dodging, and other financial and long-term environmental costs. BTW, “environmental” includes a lot of things folks don’t think of, like energy consumption, light pollution, noise pollution, and the destruction of “open spaces” that play a significant role in MENTAL health.

This is clearly due to the kid on the bike. If he had known not to bike down the road he wouldn’t have been hit

Then explain why the salaries of hedge fund managers are taxed at the capital gains rate of 15% when it is clearly earned income?
