This is so insulting.

To think that a tablet PC is all that it takes to be a writer.

To mock the efforts of the kind of men who have devoted their lives to the greatest and most noble vocation in the world and pimp out their talent with some piece of flashy junk created by a worthless college dropout who got lucky?

Kate Macfarlane, do the right thing and break your grandchildren’s iPad’s over their heads. By giving them pen and paper, you’re encouraging them to read as well as write. Keep the concept of books alive, Kate, and you will preserve the very soul of humanity.

This is just a comic, and it DID make the point for crying out loud, chill out

Tablets are a great way to read. They are not a great way to write (unless, I suppose, you only used one finger to type before).

Um, hey. Kate just made a wry quip. “a couple of pens to boot.” She’s throwing them in as part of the deal, and also saying that if she wants a device that will help her create, she can “boot” (or power on) a PEN!

I agree with Grandma. When my child was in 2nd grade, they were told they had to have calculators. I lit into the teacher. Of course his excuse was “that’s the way the world is going.” I never did buy one.

Three years ago, a cashier couldn’t give me the proper change when the cash register was down. Too many kids are “stoopid” where it really counts these days. Very, very sad.

And her tablet features reliable memory, no recharging needed, no backlight or sunlight issues, an infinity of fonts, freehand pen input, and a large display.

Oh boy.

Tablets are actually slow to type on. And I agree with Ishikawa… you won’t get writing skills just by buying a tablet; you’ll need the motivation to write regardless of the medium.

just because you have a tablet dosnt mean that you will be a great writer ( and chill out, ishikawa, its only a comic. your afterword was longet than 4 grand avenue comics)

Tablets aren’t great for writing on, nope. However, I can’t hold a pen or pencil long any more, and neither can my son (injureis") and even have rouble with a keybord but can get the messge across with one. but agree with Grandma inthat it’s what between the EARS that counts, and initial training IS better with pen or pencil.
