The U.S. is honorable. The U.S. military is full of nice, smart professionals who love the Afghan people. Don't blame us for the actions of one bad apple!
et2008, there is no doubt Ted knows who got us into Afghanistan. Perhaps you should double check to see if you aren’t under the persuasion of some metaphorical sweetened beverage if you think a president isn’t responsible for a war after having had three years to withdraw from a nation that has never attacked us.
The people of Afghanistan as a whole see us as foreigners keeping them from fighting each other as they wish, Our media is not showing the truth at all about what that country is like. It would make Americans sick to see how they treat each other over their. They do not see each other as citizens of Afghanistan. They see each other as of tribes. If you are not from their tribe you are no one to them. They kill, rape, and steal from each other as if it was nothing to them.
Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany. All of these have socialism, higher taxes, higher gas prices, but also a higher average standard of living, lower wage gap, less poverty, comprehensive affordable health care, and happier populace. The higher gas prices also led to cars with higher mpg, cleaner energy grids, and successful and safe public transportation systems. Not that any of this has anything to do with the cartoon, but you did ask the question.
On a less “violent” bent, in 1965 a friend from Kenya had a portrait of JFK in his dorm room. The photo had JFK retouched to look almost as black as Muigai. Our “propaganda” campaigns are truly “old hat”, as are our invasions of foreign countries in a more violent context.
The military is made up of killers. That’s what they’re trained to do and why they’re given weapons. Add to that formula the dehumanization of “the enemy” and what do you get?
First, socialism does work, as Fourcrows points out. We have friends in Denmark, and NO ONE wants to emigrate to our wonderful enlightened capitalistic paradise. Read about Danes and happiness if you doubt me. Second, any one who believes Obama is a socialist doesn’t understand socialism, and does just that: believe. They don’t think. “Belief” is not “thought”.

Some folks might read “The Kite Runner”, not a society I’d want to join, but more complex than simple-minded can comprehend.
