Maybe Jaxon’s dad will come to a game to see Darby pitch.

Darby is the most likeable character to appear in this strip since I’ve been reading it.I’m always struck by the obvious flaws in “Gil Thorp” (which we all laught at) and the sheer guts it shows in tackling awkward subjects. It’s easy to see why it’s lasted – and I’m not even slightly interested in sport.

In our area, alternative school students are there for a reason and therefore are NOT ELIGIBLE to participate in extra curricular activities at their local school. Random thoughts, Lil’ Dinkums is to big to be a mascot, maybe a batboy though. He can get in the way of a play at the plate and be swooped to safety ala, Dusty Baker’s kid in the World Series. BB Puff-N-Stuff getting his clothes knocked off like Charlie Brown is too funny.

I know Milford is a little isolated, but that “one thing” Darby is worried about is really not a big thing for virtually every other high school in America (an unfortunate thing, perhaps, but not a big thing anymore).

The real secret? Darby and her family live with the stigma of nonpersonalized coffee cups and she’s ashamed to have the girls come over and learn of the family’s dark, secret shame.

That’s interesting, bearwku. I work at an alternative school and students are allowed to participate in extracurriculars here. Guess it varies depending on the type of alternative school. We are a drop out recovery center.

Yeah, the traditional lineup announcement…but lacking the giant lineup card with Gil’s girly writing. Hope we see that tomorrow.

She shouldn’t worry. Her teammates will love the kid, and be so inspired they’ll all go out and get one of their own.

Has there been one baseball practice this spring? Gil’s playing fantasy baseball with these kids, and somebody’s gonna get hurt.

Darby is friends with the catcher — Amanda, I think. And Amanda doesn’t have a child. What makes Darby think she can’t make friends with her other childless teammates?

I’ve seen this scene in “The Omen” …. this kid’s got “666” on his forehead.

Maybe the older woman is Darby’s grandmother, and Jaxon is her brother whom she’s raising for some unknown reason. We’ll soon see.

doing a little math . . . kid appears to be about three or four. Darby is what? A senior at best. So, maybe baby at 15 at latest . . . actually, that’s not as bad as I was thinking. Around here, that’s marryin’ age ;-))
