A pile driver by Owen Hart shortened Stone Cold SteveAustin’s career by a few years.

Maybe the Piledriver will tamp TC’s brain back into place.

OUCH! —That’s why the WWE limits use of the piledriver (which carelessly applied can result in a broken neck) to only skilled veterans (e.g., the Undertaker) and then only in limited safe forms.

Ouch! Looks like Jerry has things under control but I still think TC might have a dirty trick up his sleeve.

Mike and Joe, you ROCK! The piledriver is Lawler’s signature finishing move. Back in the day I saw him do it many times at the old Mid-South Coliseum.

    Lawler piledrives Andy Kaufman:

And just for good measure, some vintage video footage of a piledriver. (Side note: Lawler’s partner in this match is Tojo Yamamoto, who was mentioned earlier in this Dick Tracy storyline.)

*also remembers back in the old NWA days, getting tossed over the top rope was an automatic DQ if the ref saw it….and in the early 90s, the old WCW and Cowboy Bill Watts temporarily banned off-the-top-rope maneuvers, which hurt their top lightweight division wrestlers such as Flyin’ Brian Pillman, Jushin Thunder Liger, and Brad Armstrong….

its NOT a tombstone piledriver that jerry king is executing on thunderboomer. its more like a jumping piledriver than anything else judging by jerry’s body angle. also, the difference between the tombstone and jerry’s piledriver is that they set it up differently. jerry here is set in the tombstone position since his opponent is FACING him. theres many varities of the piledriver, jerry king’s seems to be a combination of them all. but one thing that worries me is how thunderclunk took the bump. his head is tucked too far under jerry’s legs and he landed on his neck which could lead to paralysis, either from the neck, chest, or waist down if the corret cervical vertebrae had been broken. or completely opposite thunderweenie could end up sustaining whats referred to as a “stinger” where the wrestler temporarily loses feeling in the extremities. jerry LAWLER usually sets his opponents up with their back facing him when he does his piledriver… their shoulders rest on his thighs which absorbs the impact. in the case of owen hart and steve austin (a match i witnessed in person!) owen set austins head up too low and austin couldnt move after owen hit the piledriver.

also, i think the announcer is more of a take off of former nwa/wcw/wwf announcer TONY SCHIAVONE than MICHAEL COLE… tony sported a mustache for years but to the best of my knowledge never called a match alongside jerry lawler. michael cole had a mustache as well years ago, but this announcer is a light brown haired man with a bushy mustache.. much more like schiavone than cole. oh and by the way, piledrivers ARENT immediate dq’s in any wrestling federation (unless theres a handful of independent feds that have banned it) triple h uses a variation of the piledriver that he calls THE PEDIGREE, mankind/cactus jack/mick foley used to use a “double underhook piledriver/ddt” combo where he would hook his opponents arms behind their backs, and arn anderson and tully blanchard used to use a spike piledriver where tully would set the opponent up in piledriver position and arn would jump off the second rope and spike him into the mat… shawn michaels and marty jannetty used to use what they referred to as a “ROCKER DROPPER” when they first joined the wwf where they would extend their opponents arm over theirs, then plce their leg behind his head and drop him facefirst into the mat.

Just incredible – both the strip’s rebirth, rising like a Phoenix from the ashes and the depth and scope of the shared expertise (both entertainment wrestling and Dick Tracy history) in the comment board.

    I truly can’t wait until tomorrow’s installment!

All we need now is for the shoulder strap to come down and an off the top rope fist drop.

Jerry King knows this piledriver will keep Thunderchild down for the count, while Tracy arrests him. It’s all in the shoot.

Absolutely amazing strips this week. So in love with this story.

Gotta give props to Mike the announcer for keeping it real. Or, unreal, whatever the case may be. I really admire how the Tracy team spreads the lines around to all the characters including the minor ones. Love this strip and storyline.

Wow that “piledriver” looks serious. That will sure take the wind out of the old sail. We all know that Thunderbaby had that coming. I hope that we get to see him in handcuffs.

I just found about this while browsing my Facebook news, and thought I would share.Sheldon Moldoff, R.I.P.A very informative article. I always feel I am playing “catch up” in the comic industry. There are so many artist and writers. Every time I hear that one has died I always think, “Damn, I would have liked to have met this person at least once.”I like how Moldoff went by the name of Shelly. Most of you know that my wife is Shelley Pleger, the inker/letterer for Dick Tracy, a comic strip even older than Action Comics #1.
