Hope Warbucks doesn’t decide to ignore the President. Could be important.

Same reason corporations move stuff overseas today – high corporate taxes at home (highest in the world). They go (and are required by law to go) wherever costs of operation are lowest. We screech about moving jobs overseas – but any CEO that failed to do so would by guilty of breaching his fiduciary duty.

In a way, it’s the new colonialism. Instead of sending armies to subjugate other nations, we send our corporations instead.

Also, I don’t think Jay Maeder is quite the ideologue that Harold Gray was.

Past strips have shown that Warbucks has used his new city as a trap for terrorists. In Mexico, he does not need to worry about having to read the Miranda rights to the terrorist that he arrest. Nor does he need to go through a lengthy court process to turn them over to the authorities that are looking for them. Also, members of our unofficial government ( the news media) have basically made Warbucks persona non grata in the land of his birth.
