Especially little red wagons. There was a time when he was around 3 1/2, that he received a Radio Flyer for Christmas. His excitement knew no bounds. He soon graduated to tricycles, then moved on to two wheel bicycles, with those ‘ooga ooga’ horns. He dreamed of his first jalopy, and when the time came, he and his dad went to Honest Phil’s Used Cars and Barbeque Shack.

Hope that wagon is equipped with lo-jack, cause I think it’s about to go missing.

A 56 Golden Hawk is the car of my dreams!

I’ve always said that’s what I’d get if I won the lottery.

Don’t forget the ponies in the park, the donkey carts in Egypt….. tractors, ski lifts and trams.

Plus the shiny shoes he lines up in his closet, and the ones he admires in shop windows, for when he rides shank’s mare.

Those wonderful days when a boy and his American Flyer was all the mattered, the only important path was from the garage to the mail box and back, as fast as you could go. Alan eventually grew up and traded his tricycle for a three button suit; his bicycle for a station wagon and his rocket ship to the stars for his 401K and a week at the beach. Shirley knows, she has watched and waited. She saw the motorcycle come and go, roller blade mishaps, the miniature train set, with the terminal, yards and bridges; the track racers fad; remote control airplanes, upgraded to fighter jets. Remember, Go Carts!!!! Alan had two. There was the water propelled rocket ships and the black powder propulsion craze, which ended badly and is longer discussed as a learning lesson. The collectible cars, first the Vets, then the Classics. The tractors, the toy ones and the antiques. Ancient cart art, no kidding. When the rage was kite surfing, he was there. Zip line weekends and trail bike Sundays. Battery operated tug boats morphed into speed racers and then slowly transitioned into three foot long sailing yachts, ketches and clipper ships which disappeared over the horizon….oh well, Shirley has seen it all.

I’m so wired about my pending trip to Austin, Tx that I can’t think of much to say here. That trip will have me depending on my smart phone (which is a pain to use for comments here) so I may not say much until after President’s day.Nice taste in motorcars, SusanS.

“Alan is a great admirer of all manner of transport”…

…and thus makes a mental note to self, that if upon return from their morning stroll to mass, that it has not been claimed by that unworthy little Rutledge P. Korenkiewicz in the brown-stone, that it may very well (finally!) end up as a permanent centerpiece in his newly dedicated, highly coveted and as of yet unoccupied throne in his basement museum “Temple of 20th Century Toddler Transportation”….

I was always impressed with the Studebaker Avanti. Although supposedly it sold well and was a real screamer on the road, it was too little, too late for the company. The car lived on after Studebaker folded as a high end luxury car company but eventually went under too.
