Wow! Teddy! Check out that icicle! It's HUGE! Let's try to snap it off! Careful! Don't bust it! Krrk! YES! Oof! This thing's heavy! What are we supposed to do with it? It's not like we can really PLAY with it. Let's smash it against that tree! CRUNCH! YAAAH! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HEH HEH...HA...HEH... The awesomeness didn't last as long as I thought it would. What else can we break?

Nate and Teddy learn a valuable lesson. Sometimes we destroy something beautiful in the hope that doing so will give us some kind of pleasure — only to find out that if we had left it alone we could enjoy the pleasure of its beauty for a very long time.

A good op was shot, here, for a future “that’s the house” scenario! e.g.: imagine the whole gutter ripping away from the roof (whose?) when they broke the icicle loose. Or they could have toted it down to the skating pond & chased Ellen & her troupe around while they were trying to ice-dance, & then suddenly break through the ice (where Lincoln would reveal the pond to be only a few inches deep) so the boys would be in up to their ankles & look like dopes in front of everyone….etc., etc…..This was actually pretty anticlimactic…….anyway I hope you’ve enjoyed your time off Lincoln.

It’s how we learn not to do certain things. Maybe you hit a bird with a rock as a kid. Maybe you broke a bottle on the sidewalk. Maybe you stuck a broomstick in the front spokes your brother’s bike when he rode past. Maybe Nate and Teddy will leave icicles alone tomorrow.
