Don’t I wish. What I do with telemarketers is – not answer the phone unless I recognize the caller ID. If I’m feeling puckish, I answer, and if it’s a telemarketer, I say, “Oh, excuse me a moment – I have to turn down the stove. I’ll be right back.” Then I put down the phone and leave it for ten minutes. If it’s a pollster, I answer the questions, then, when they’re through, I say, “Oh, one thing you should know – everything I told you was a lie.” They hate that!
I used to work as a telemarketer. If you’re expecting an impassioned “Telemarketers are people too” speech forget about it. I still wish I could do that every time I get pulled away from what I’m doing by “Rachel from Credit Card Services” or someone with an Indian accent that is nearly incomprehensible trying to get me to re-up with ATT….
I came across a quote once upon a time, “I plan on getting rich by inventing a device that will let me stab people from across the internet.” I think Her Maj beat me to it.Though I wonder if it would work across a cell phone?
