Why are French Poodles are always referred to as females. Just as many are males or do cartoonists not understand how that works?

French poodles are just considered a feminine dog, just as some other dogs as seem as more masculine. How many female bulldogs or dobermans have you seen in the comics? In fact, poodles were originally bred as hunting dogs, retrievers, and their crazy haircuts were designed to make it easier for them to swim while still keeping warm important parts of their bodies.
