Because he was the whiny dork. The producers put him on the show just so he can be voted off early. Nobody cares about him; he’s just plot fodder, like the whiny guy in horror movies who gets eaten by the monster first.
Not true anymore. If you go to many, if not most, bars or restaurants, TV is forced upon you. It used to be that if you wanted to watch TV, you could stay home. Now you almost have to stay home if you DON’T want to watch it.
That’s why I like “Primetime in No Time” on Yahoo… a 60 second rundown of the highlights on the top shows from the night before. Saves a few hours every night watching them. ;-)
I believe everyone should be able to watch what they want. From what tiny bit I have seen of “reality” programs, if you left a black space in their time slot it would be an improvement. .If our programming and commercials are a reflection of our society, taste, and gulibility, what does that say about us?
Years ago, when people complained about risque TV shows, the producers would say “… just change the channel.” Now, you have to look hard to find something that isn’t risque, raunchy, or has some sort of agenda, so you’re option is to turn it off. Of course the old stuff is still around… at least that.

Those stupid ‘reality’ shows are like a scab that one just can’t leave alone. Until it heals.
I hope that Television has finally healed all of its scabs.
