Gramma Evie: I guess it's just a matter of time before the family discovers I came to Haiti on a one-way ticket. Arnold: Why didn't you just tell them? Gramma Evie: I guess I didn't want to have to EXPLAIN myself. Gramma Evie: Is that selfish? Arnold: You're sweating in the hot sun building houses for refugees. SELFISH doesn't come to mind.

Oh oh, careful Evie. You’re on the edge of falling for him…real hard like.

Selfish? Maybe not. ‘Thoughtless’ is more like it. Like it or not she has a family that cares for her and she doesn’t care if she’s making them worry or what she’s putting them through. She’s acting like a teenager.

She didn’t drop out of contact with them – she just didn’t tell them something. And I think they ARE on the same page.

She edging toward a commitment of some kind (to Arnold, to the work, to???). It’s not selfish if she’s not ready to discuss it with her family. She’s an adult and has a right to her own life. She helped out with her kids and their kids, but they don’t really need her any more. The relationship needs to change.

If it’s all that hot, they should be wearing hats. Come to think of it, on a construction site, they should have hard hats.

Being part of a family relationship is being accountable. Evie is acting like a teenager, not wanting to relay simple information and being accountable to those who love and care for her the most.
