My Fair Lady, the movie, was released 12/25/64. This was published 1/30/65, just a little over a month later.

The David Michaelis biography (for good or ill) indicates that Mr. Shultz often transferred his feelings and weighty decisions of the moment to the strip. So it’s very possible he was wrestling with these feelings in his personal life at that time.
