Joe pa was made the scapegoat for following the rules. What’s that mean for the rest of us? Work hard, follow the rules and get fired before retire! The team should forfit the rest of the season in protest!!!!
In 2002 when this occured, the responsibility to report these things was less clear. He reported it to his superiors, which was probably all that was required 10 years ago. Since then all the issues with the Catholic church hit the front page and people are far more sensitive about reporting suspected child abuse to everyone and anyone. To fire the guy because an action he took, or didn’t take, 10 years ago isn’t consistent with the action one would take today is grossly unfair. Remember, 40 years ago homosexuality was defined by the American Medical Assoc. as a mental illness. Times change, and someone shouldn’t be judged by today’s standards for an event that occured a decade ago.
@pGarrigues: I was an emergency-care foster parent in the 80’s and the law in California then was that anyone working with minors was legally required to report any abuse directly to either Children’s Services or the police. And I heard (cannot confirm where) that the police were notified but did nothing that would affect their sacred football team. And given the number of children put into foster care because of sexual abuse by parent or guardian then it was certainly illegal.
