Now, mind, we ARE stepping down our presence in Afghanistan alongside keeping our commitment to leaving Iraq.

Notice the word, ‘Iraq’ on the door, just above the soldier’s head? No doubt here, Oliphant got his wires seriously crossed with this one.

Formerly: My friends were there in ‘66 as well. Condi’s little buddy Karzai is just the latest, and perhaps worst of the lot, but look who picked him. My son was in the neighborhood in ‘06. We won’t ever learn to keep out of Asia’s business. (Which means from Turkey to Honshu and the Pacific plate)

I’m pretty sure Oliphant is aware that Karzai’s in Afgh, whereas we’re leaving Iraq (he’s blatantly spelled it out on the door). The point is, we’re on our way out, period. With our massive debts and the reluctance of Congress to repay our creditors (call it what you will, but that’s how our creditors see it), our world wide empire is coming to an end.

I’m sure Kirk that folks like you will be so happy when our little empire comes to an end. Then again, do you know what an empire is?

I’m really beginning to wonder what, and who, the “right wing” think the “Arab world” is. Do they realize the “Muslim world” is most of south Asia, and Africa? Islam is 1.5 BILLION people spread across the world, and “Sharia law” is only the hot item with a few, though elements of that law are respected. Ask Pat Robertson and the fundamentalists in this country about the theocracy THEY would inflict. Hmm, they’d go back to that same “old time religion” of the Old Testament, the basis for that “Sharia law”. “Stoned” wouldn’t be from smoking pot, well, except for the crime of smoking it, and getting “biblically punished”.

@SABRSteve – actually I was much happier when our empire was alive and thriving, near its zenith of power – in my youth. It’s less about what I want and more about what is happening, whether I like it or not. And yes, I very definitely know what an empire is.

i think Pat has Iraq and Afghanistan confused. Door is labeled sort of “Iraq” while figure in chair is Karzai of Afghanistan. C’mon Pat, you are usually not that sloppy!

If it were NOT for Pakistan and Iran, President Obama and the U.S. would have already pulled the plug and the lights would have already been put out ! President Karzai is talking like an idiot and a “loose cannon” out of control.
