The same thing happened to New York Giants rookie punter Sean Landeta in a playoff game vs the Superbowl-bound Chicago Bears in ‘86. He whiffed a punt on the 12 yard line, the ball ended up 7 yards behind him, and the Bears recovered it for a touchdown. Landeta went on to a 20 year career as one of the NFL’s best punters. Maybe there’s hope for Lucy after all.
